Planning Invitation
The Amherst County Planning Commission has begun work on re-writing portions of the zoning and subdivision ordinance and would like to invite all citizens interested in planning for the future of Amherst County to attend the meetings.
The planning commission is meeting an hour prior to the regularly scheduled meetings to discuss changes to the zoning and subdivision ordinance.
The commission would also like to respond to a letter to the editor that was submitted to the Amherst New Era-Progress on March 6 stating “Farm for sale”.
The editorial stated that the Planning Commission desired to prohibit flag lots, and regulate development of a house, barn, driveway, feedlot on any portion of a farm greater than 10 percent slope. Each of the accusations included in the article presents a false view of what the commissioners are considering. Additionally, a view shed protection ordinance has not been discussed during the zoning and subdivision meetings. The commission welcomes open discussion of plans and different viewpoints, but half truths and false impressions tend to generate fear and animosity instead of advancing the best interest of the community.
Please review the calendar portion of the County website for meeting dates and times, or call the Planning and Zoning Department at 434-946-9303 for more information.
