Ouida Swan Adcock, 87, of Madison Heights, died April 2. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Franklin Adcock.
Born July 27, 1920, in Buckingham County, she was a daughter of the late William and Carrie Ragland Swan. She was a charter member of Randolph Memorial Baptist Church and was retired from Madison Garment Factory.
She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Gladys Kesterson, Doris Rosser and Corrine Kidd, and her granddaughter, Angie Higgins.
Survivors include three sons, George W. Adcock and wife, Elsie, of Madison Heights, James H. Adcock and wife, Cora, of Lovingston, and Michael E. Adcock and wife, Karla, of Monroe; daughters, Ann A. McFadden and husband, Pete, of Appomattox, Roma A. Peters and husband, Leslie, of Madison Heights and Barbara A. Farmer, of Madison Heights; two brothers, William E. Swan, of Lynchburg and H.B. Swan, of Madison Heights; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
A funeral service was conducted on April 5 at Whitten Monelison Chapel. Interment took place in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

Edith Sorrels Austin, 78, of Buena Vista, died April 1.
She was born Dec. 1, 1929 in Buena Vista, a daughter of the late Hunter and Lillie Flint Sorrels.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Glen W. Sorrels.
She was a member of First Brethren Church, Buena Vista for 51 years.
Surviving are her husband, Robert Austin; two daughters, Carolyn Topping and husband, Jerry, of Buena Vista and Pam Ragland and husband, Phil, of Lexington; a son, Ronnie Green and wife, Maddie, of Buena Vista; two step-daughters, Helen Bailey and husband, Dick, of Troutville and Linda Floyd and husband, Garry, Buena Vista; a stepson, Robert Austin Jr. of Buena Vista; two brothers, Joseph Sorrels of Buena Vista and Jonnie Sorrels of Madison Heights; one niece; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held April 4 at Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Chapel. Burial followed in Green Hill Cemetery.

Susie Lee Randolph Christian, 60, of Amherst, died on April 3.
Born in Nelson County on Feb. 29, 1948, she was a daughter of Geneva Brown Randolph of Piney River and the late Curtis Randolph.
She was a long-time employee of UVA Medical Center, had also worked for Fitzgerald Packing Shed and had recently been employed by Holiday Select of Lynchburg. She was a member of St. James Baptist church, where she served as an usher.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by a son, Joseph Montgomery Christian of Phoenix, Ariz.; two sisters, Roberta Brown and Cassandra Randolph, both of Piney River; one granddaughter; two God-children; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a brother, Curtis Randolph Jr.
A funeral service will be conducted on April 12 at 2 p.m. at St. James Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Brown Family Cemetery.

Mary Frances Davenport died on March 19. She was the youngest of six children born to Minnie Sue Ownby and stepfather Justin Vernon Ownby on June 26, 1940 in Mobile, Ala. 
A memorial service was conducted on April 5 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses in Wilson.
On Dec. 22, 1956 she married Charlie Jackson Davenport. From this union, three children were born. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charlie Jackson Davenport Sr. and her son, Charlie Jackson Davenport Jr.
Charlie and Mary Frances began to study the bible together as a family in 1970 and after dedicating their lives to serve God, were baptized together in Henderson, Tenn., on March 20, 1971. They become witnesses of Jehovah.
She is survived by two brothers, Alvin P. Ownby of McKenzie, Tenn. and Robert P. Ownby of Mobile, Ala.; two daughters, Teresa Jayne Finn of Rocky Mount, N.C. and Stephanie Renee’ Roberson of Elm City, N.C.; eight grandchildren, Tina Renee Johnson of Rocky Mount, N.C., Quentin Edward Berry of Houston, Texas, Trevor Jackson Davenport of Rocky Mount, N.C. Torrance Jackson Davenport of Raleigh, N.C., Layla Marie Davenport of Raleigh, N.C., Savannah Lynn Butts of Marion Junction, Ala, Serina Jayne Holmes of Dover, Tenn. and Jonathan Lane Holmes of Dover, Tenn.; one step-grandson, Todd Walter Finn of Ravena, NY; six great grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.

Raymond Orville Jones Jr., 74, of Lynchburg, died April 6. He was the husband of Lois Sprouse Jones.
He was born in Lynchburg, the son of the late Raymond Orville Jones Sr. and Virginia Smith Jones. He was retired from Dalton-Pennell & Co. where he was a partner and worked as a CPA and was a member of West Lynchburg Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Sharon J. Harris and her husband Gary of Salisbury, N.C., Rebecca J. Janis of San Diego, Calif.; his grandchildren, Christopher Tibbs and wife Lindsay of Lynchburg, Lisa Janis and Beth Janis both of San Diego, Calif., and Cathryn Harris of Amherst; and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service was conducted April 8 in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home.

Edward Lee Peters, 59, of Concord, died on April 1. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Debora Cook Peters.
Born Sept. 16, 1948, in Bagdad, Fla., he was the son of the late Fred and Lillie Mae Johnson Peters. He was employed at Bemco Trucking as a mechanic.
He is also survived by son, Edward Lee Peters Jr., of Concord; two sisters, Nell Watson and husband, Julian, of Lynchburg and Vivian Jamerson, of Madison Heights; an aunt, Ernestine Padgett, of Bagdad, Fla., other relatives and many friends.
A graveside service was conducted on April 4 at Presbyterian Cemetery.

Ruth Marguerite Sargent, 80, of Amherst, died April 1.
She was born June 30, 1927 in New Brunswick, N.J., a daughter of the late Dr. Elmer Sargent and Marguerite Nelson Sargent of Amherst County. She was a graduate of Flemington High School in New Jersey and continued her education at Swarthmore Collage, where she received her BS degree. She was a retired secretary/clerk and liberian.
Besides he parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Roger Sargent and a sister, Mary Davis.
She is survived by her sister, Synthia Grubs of Flemington, N.J. and her brother. Jack Sargent of Arcadia, Fla.
A graveside service was held April 7 in the Presbyterian Cemetery in Lynchburg.
