The Amherst Town Council is considering several major proposals this week, including moving forward on the proposed Town Square project, a request by Poplar Grove Golf Club community for access to the town’s water and sewer system and whether to hire consultants to essentially jump-start the Brockman Park industrial site by marketing it and approaching and persuading businesses to move there.
The town also is considering disposal of an antenna tower; awarding a construction contract to extend sidewalks on South Main Street; and what, if anything, to do about downtown parking.
A group of merchants complained that after parking meters were disabled earlier this year, some motorists parked for extended periods. Merchants asked the town to regulate parking.
In other business, Amherst resident Mike Mozingo has applied to join the town Planning Commission.
The council was scheduled to meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday, first for an hour-long work session and then to convene the regular meeting at 7 p.m.
